Who we are

The Alastair Swayn Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to advancing the role of architecture and design in the shaping of Australia’s future. Established through the bequeathed estate of prominent Australian architect Alastair Swayn AO, the Foundation honours Alastair’s legacy by supporting research, education and exhibition across Australian architecture and design.

The Swayn Gallery of Australian Design is the beneficiary of the Alastair Swayn Foundation. Together, they are dedicated to fostering a thriving architectural and design culture in Australia while preserving Alastair Swayn AO’s enduring legacy.

What we do

We fund and facilitate research, projects and programs that advance architectural and design thinking and practice across Australia. Through our activities, collaborations and engagement we foster thought leadership and knowledge exchange, chart pathways to grow ambition and excellence, and act to demonstrate the critical roles architecture and design play in the lives of all Australians.

Why it matters

The Foundation supports architects, designers, and the wider community to advance the critical issues and challenges shaping our built environment, our communities and our cultures. As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, we are a trusted source of research and insight, with deep networks across government, industry and academia.
