For the first time in our collective history, more people are finding themselves living in urban rather than rural settings. As the inhabitation of cities becomes the norm in the 21st Century, the question of how we can live densely together whilst maintaining healthy, liveable, and sustainable built environments remains elusive.
Hope in High-Rise: An Exploration of Urban Density and Apartment Design seeks to address this question by unpackaging the historical, the socio-cultural and the economic factors which have shaped and continue to shape high-density housing. It proposes seven key propositions or ‘mindset shifts’ as a starting point and a reminder that housing is not merely a commodity, but at is heart, is a place for people to call home.
